A recent trip to the doctor’s office for a check-up showed my cholesterol level was 224. My doctor thinks I will take a drug to control the cholesterol, but I won’t.
So, I’ve decided to take the Quaker Oats Smart Heart Challenge.
Taking the challenge is easy: Have your cholesterol tested; Eat a bowl of oatmeal every day plus limit foods that add saturated fat and cholesterol; Exercise every day. After 30 days have your cholesterol tested again.
The experts say for every point that you lower your cholesterol, you decrease your risk of heart disease by about 1 percent.
Want to join me? Visit www.quakeroatmeal.com to take the pledge and manage your progress during the 30-day challenge.
I’ve also joined Weight Watchers. All I have to say about that is: I’m hungry.

Hi Sharon;
Try 2,000 mg’s of the vitamin Niacin a day instead of Lipitor. It works! Costco ( in Louisville) sells Niacin that doesn’t give me the “prickly” buzz that you get with regular Niacin.
Oatmeal alone is not going to do it. Weight watchers is great.

Hi, Sharon,
I make up oatmeal from the old fashioned oats for the largest number on the box. In the water, I put a cut up apple and when it boils add the oats, one minute before it finishes add about 1/2 cup of raisins, 1/4 tsp. of vanilla and 2 tbls. milled flax.
You get a lot of oats! But you can put 1/2 cup of cooked oats in sandwich bags in the freezer and each day you have your breakfast already fixed.
I pour fat free milk over it and a bit of splenda. It’s very good and my nutrionist loves it, too!
Good luck with your cholesterol!
